Annual End of the Season Summer BBQ & Fundraiser with Travis Linville (8/10/19)

$35.00

Our Annual End of the Season Summer BBQ & Fundraiser will feature Travis Linville, instrumentalist and songwriter extraordinaire and Oklahoma music legend.

Rolling Stone recently named him as one of 10 New Country Artists You Need to Know, but he’s more than 20 years playing the bars and honky tonks since he started with a fake I.D. at age 17 so he is hardly new. He fronted the legendary Burtschi Brothers in the late 90s, has released four solo EPs and albums, and has spent more than a decade touring all the world with Texas songwriter Hayes Carll while performing with Willie Nelson, Tommy Allsup, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Ryan Bingham, Billy Joe Shaver and Marty Stewart as a solo artist.

He’s also produced records by Oklahoma talents John Fullbright, Carter Sampson, Jason Scott, Dylan Stewart, Erin O’Dowd and many more. He also taught guitar lessons to a then nine-year-old Parker Millsap.

A potluck fundraiser (suggested donation of $20) will precede the show at the Vassar Center. Potluck and doors open at 5 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m.

Rolling Stone recently named Travis Linville as one of 10 New Country Artists You Need to Know.

What’s funny about that is Travis Linville has been a legend since he started playing in bars with a fake I.D. at age 17, fronted the legendary Burtschi Brothers in the late 90s, and he’s released four solo EPs and albums all highlighting his immense musical talents. In that same article, Rolling Stone described him as, “Eighties-era Randy Newman with an earnest James Taylor softness, but scuffed up just enough by a guy with plenty of miles on the road – and in the air (he’s a licensed pilot)”.

We’re not sure about that, but as musicians go, he’s our favorite kind — one that nurtures the great young talent we have here in Oklahoma. He’s produced records by Oklahoma talents John Fullbright, Carter Sampson, Jason Scott, Dylan Stewart, Erin O’Dowd and many more. He also taught guitar lessons to a then nine-year-old Parker Millsap. Those youngsters and others like John Moreland, John Calvin Abney and Turnpike Troubadours still talk about he influence the Burtschi Brothers had on them growing up.

A gifted instrumentalist, Linville is also known for his work as a sideman with Texas songwriter Hayes Carll, who calls him “criminally underrated,” and as a solo artist he’s performed with Willie Nelson, Tommy Allsup, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Ryan Bingham, Billy Joe Shaver and Marty Stewart.

“Travis Linville writes, plays and sings music the way it’s supposed to be done,” Carll says. “With depth, heart and soul. One of my all-time favorite musicians.”
