Description

John Calvin Abney first played here with Kyle Reid about five years ago. It was a last minute thing between friends and neither of them were particularly well known. We had 10 people show including volunteers, parents and a couple of people who wandered in off the street. But it was indeed a fine evening and everyone left with smiles on their faces.

Since then, John Calvin has been all over the world with Samantha Crain and John Moreland as their go-to opener, guitarist and piano man. Through those adventures he’s been able to perform with John Prine, Shovels and Rope and many, many more while appearing with Moreland on CBS Sunday Morning and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts.

When his last record, Coyote, came out, was also featured in Rolling Stone’s Artists You Need to Know, refering to John’s songs as “Dreamy folk with a good balance of sadness and sunshine.”

We’ve been trying to get him back ever since that wonderful night a long time ago and we couldn’t be more excited that he’ll be here for our annual spring fundraiser. Kierston White, another fine Oklahoma songwriter with a new record that came out last fall, will open the show.

Seating is limited. Doors open at 5 p.m., music at 7 p.m.
